PRIMARY ACTIVITIES & RESOURCES

  BRITISH DAY

JESUITINAS BRITISH WEEK

ARTS& CRAFTS /INTERESTING PROJECTS

   OUR SOLAR SYSTEM

I think that create a friendly atmosphere in the class helps us to start  a confident and    motivating learning for our  pupils .

Using scaffolding strategies  is really useful not only for teachers ,but also for improving our pupils’ learning skills.

The topic which I have chosen is “Our Solar System”.I would work with pupils of  Third Cycle.

Firstly, I would motivate this unit listening  a song about the planets.I would use the digital board.(The planets in our solar system song-You tube)

When the song would have finished,I hung on the board a big mural of the Solar system with the planets.I would start making questions such as,what can you see?,how many planets are there in our Solar system? Could you name them?

Secondly,We would see  two videos in which they could learn some specific contents about this theme.(Introduction to the Solar system-you tube and Solar system video for kindergarden children) This activity  would help students to understand concepts.

I would hang on the walls some sentences frames so that pupils could remember the structures that we needed like comparative and superlative.(This planet is the coldest/biggest/smallest/hottest/nearest… //how many rings/moons… are there in this planet?//This planet is more…than…//This planet is bigger than…)

With this structures we would talk each other during five minutes.

Then,I would go with all of the pupils to the playground to play a hunted cards game. This game would consist of children divided in groups of threes should find the cards which would have information about planets .The cards would have been hiden previously around the playground.

I would hand out one sheet of paper to each group and they would look for the cards and answer all of the incompleted sentences,

The three first groups with the correct answers, would get a positive in their marks.

I collect all of the photocopies and the following day we would start revising the theme scaffolding with the visual aids that we had used the previous day and the sentences frame too.

To support the contents I would use the sheet of paper which we had used for the game the day before.

Finally,we would finish doing a craft in groups. Each group would work with one planet and they have to guess the other two planets nearest on the left or on the right. They would make them with cardboards and we would make a mobile. Each group should explain their project to the other classmates-

All of these projects would be  hunging on the walls of the school corridors.
